A member of the House of Representatives, Akin Alabi, has slammed Sports Minister, Sunday Dare over Tuesday’s poor outing by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The Super Eagles had crashed out of the World Cup qualifying encounter against the Black Stars of Ghana after playing a 1-1 draw at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Alabi, who is also the founder of Naira Bet, a sports betting company, said he was disappointed with the level of preparation that he saw when he arrived at the stadium on Tuesday.
The House of Representatives member, who represents Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, said the entire Ministry of Sports and its Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare put up what he called a disgraceful performance.
He said, “I’ve seen my team lose many times and I accept it as part of the game.
“I was at the stadium today and the organization shocked me more than the result.
“The entire sports ministry, starting from Mr. Sunday Dare absolutely bottled it. Disgraceful.”
Both Alabi and Dare, who is also from Oyo State, belong to the All Progressive Congress.
After the match on Tuesday, irate fans had gone ahead to attack players and vandalized stadium facilities.
Policemen who were at the stadium at the time of the violence were helpless.
Many were seen damaging and smashing sports equipment.
The stadium was renovated last year to the tune of about $1m by businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
