The House of Representatives has passed a bill to extend the capital component implementation of the 2024 budget from June 30 to December 31, 2025.
Presented by the Deputy Majority Leader, Ibrahim Halims, the bill titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the 2024 Appropriation Act to Further Extend the Capital Components of the Act From 30th June 2025 to 31st December 2025 and for Related Matters (HB.2404),” scaled through the second reading during the green chamber’s plenary session on Tuesday.
Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, said the extension was necessary because the 2024 budget has not been fully implemented.
The bill was reportedly passed through voice vote and referred to the Committee on Supply for further action.
Recall that the lower chamber had in February approved the N54.99 trillion 2025 national budget.
Initially adjusted by President Bola Tinubu from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion, the budget was reviewed by the National Assembly which pegged it to N54.99 trillion before approval.
However, the legislative arm jointly shifted its implementation till June 30th which is again on the verge for being extended by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
