Nigeria's retail sector is about to witness a major change as giant operator, Shoprite announced today its plans to leave Nigeria.
The South African brand has operated in Nigeria in 15 years.
It said that there are enough investors who are eager to take over the Nigerian interests in the conglomerate. Shoprite has been the choice shopping place for Nigerian household goods since its advent in Nigeria.
In a statement on Monday, Shoprite said, "Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited may be classified as a discontinued operation.”
Country Director of Chastex Consult, Ini Archibong, on behalf of Shoperite on Monday explained the news circulating about the conglomerate leaving Nigeria is untrue.
He added that new investors from Nigeria are coming on board with a view to expanding the operations.
