The Nigerian Army has pleaded with Sokoto State residents to return explosive materials recovered from the United States Christmas Day airstrike in the state.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) made the plea in a press statement issued on Wednesday, warning that the items pose grave danger to anyone in possession of them and the wider public.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, expressed the military’s concern over sensitive and highly dangerous materials
He disclosed that the materials had been removed by unauthorised persons.
“We can only appeal to them to return all materials that are too harmful to them.
“We don’t expect anybody to take away those materials.” He said.
Onoja said a particular formation were assigned with the responsibility of recovering the materials.
“We have formations within the Armed Forces whose duty it is to recover those things.
“We also want you to disseminate to them to return them to the military or security locations so that we can disarm those things before they cause greater damage to the individuals who have taken them and to the other members of the public.” He added.
