Former Statiscian General of the National Bureau of Statistics Dr. Yemi Kale on Wednesday described as very concerning the rising debt in Nigeria.
Kale was giving a keynote speech in Lagos at the 2025 annual lecture of the Vanguard Newspapers.
The lecture has as its theme: Nigeria Economic Outlook 2025: Hardship and Pathways to Sustainable Recovery.
Though Kale stated that debt is a global phenomenon, he however regretted that a country like Nigeria with its structure of economic growth, cannot afford to be so exposed to such staggering levels of debt.
Nigeria External Debt reached 43.0 USD bn in Sep 2024.
Critics have warned against incurring more debt saying it spells future doom for the country.
