Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has broken silence over Rivers political unrest, accusing Siminalayi Fubara of inciting the violence that rocked the state earlier this week.
Wike made the accusation while speaking at an interview program on Channels TV yesterday.
The FCT Minister and former Rivers State governor accused Fubara, his successor, of inciting the violence following his refusal to obey court’s order.
“You heard the President said the judiciary can settle all political dispute. And those who came wanted the judiciary to settle the dispute.
“And you came out as a governor to say no this is a fraudulent judgement, accusing judiciary of being fraudulent.
“In that case, who is inciting violence? Who is inciting anarchy? You heard him say our state is turning to where people do not want to obey law and order. What is obeying law and order? Obey what the court has said.” Wike said.
Recall that a Rivers State Federal High Court had ordered the suspension of last week’s local government elections in the state, barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from providing Voters Register to the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner.
The court’s verdict had also order the Nigerian Police Force to withdraw from the October 5 election which the Force complied with.
However, Fubara had insisted on the election which was held with the winners sworn in on Sunday.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, violence erupted on Monday as alleged pro Wike supporters stormed local governments across the state, burning three LG secretariats and causing unrest in the state.
