President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of state of emergency on Rivers state has sparked outrage at the House of Representatives as two female lawmakers engaged in heated argument.
The moment, captured in a viral video shared on X on Wednesday, saw both lawmakers fiercely exchanging words as their male counterparts watched on.
It appeared that the involvement of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in the Rivers crisis had triggered the argument as one of the lawmakers could be heard asking “Who is Nyesom Wike?”.
Both women would later be separated by members of the House as the tension doused gradually for the commencement of the plenary session.
NPO reported that Tinubu had written to the Lower Chamber for the approval of the controversial state of emergency declaration.
The President had on Tuesday night made the declaration in a nationwide broadcast, citing the unresolved political crisis in the oil-rich state among reasons for the decision.
