Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to return from his foreign tour ahead of his reinstatement as the state governor.
With his six-month suspension set to end on Thursday, Fubara is billed to return to the government house alongside his cabinet, marking an end to the emergency rule in Rivers.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu, who is also due to return to Nigeria today from his working vacation to France, had on the 18th of March declared a state of emergency in Rivers over the unresolved political crisis ravaging the state.
As part of the emergency rule declaration, the President suspended Fubara and his cabinet as well as all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Tinubu would then appoint Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd) as Rivers Sole Administrator with the responsibility of the overseeing the affairs of the state in the course of Fubara’s six months suspension.
Coupled with the re-conduct of the state’s local government election, Tinubu brokered truce between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, whose feud with the governor was alleged to be responsible for the political unrest in the state.
The President’s intervention had since seen the duo reunited and earmarked the imminent return of Fubara.
Ahead of the governor’s return, Ibas had on Sunday held a thanksgiving ceremony in church to celebrate the completion of his tenure as Rivers Sole Administrator.
