The Rivers State House of Assembly has, on Wednesday, summoned the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd) to appear before it within 48- hours over the conduct of the October 5, 2024 local government elections.
The House made the summon during plenary presided over by its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.
It also threatened to issue a warrant for the arrest of the RSIEC Chairman if he fails to appear before the House at the expiration of the ultimatum.
NPO reported that the Assembly had also issued 48 hours ultimatum to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to present the list of nominees for Commissioners as it declared the incumbent Commissioners as illegal, stressing that they were not screened by the Assembly.
These are coming under the heels of last week’s Supreme Court’s verdict which reinstated the sacked lawmakers of the House and declared Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the legislative chamber.
The apex court had also barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions from releasing the Federal allocation to the state government until the 2025 budget is represented before the Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly.
