The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged winner of 20 out the 23 local governments at the just concluded council election in Rivers State.
NPO Reported that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) had yesterday conducted a rerun of the LG election months after the Supreme Court annulment of the election held by the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, prior to the declaration of emergency rule in the state.
Announcing the results of the election on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, the RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, declared the APC winner across 20 councils while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured the remaining three councils.
According to reports, the victory marked the first time the APC would gain dominance in Rivers since the return of democracy in 1999.
The list of winners, as released by RSIEC, revealed that some of the elected chairmen are returning for a second term, having previously served under the administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
