Residents of Omuma area of Rivers state expressed solidarity for the state’s governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as they called for Wike’s submission.
In a now viral video on X, Omuma residents had, last night, trooped out en masse following the arrival of election materials.
The residents were heavily chanting as they accosted the truck conveying the election materials.
In the past few days, tension has grown in Rivers state ahead of the local government election set to hold today.
NPO Reports the call for suspension of the election by a Rivers Federal High Court.
The court had barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from giving the state’s electoral commission voters’ register.
However, Fubara insisted that the election must hold regardless of the court’s ruling and the withdrawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from election.
On Thursday, the tension took another twist as Fubara stormed RSIEC’s office following reports of Police presence at the state’s electoral commission’s premises.
