Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has told the 1000 beneficiaries of the year 2024 Lagos State’s Micro-Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI) programme to put into good use, the empowerment tools given to them by the state government.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, made this known at the programme held earlier today at the Blue Roof, LTV, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
While stressing that the initiative was part of his administration’s economic development and poverty eradication strategy, Sanwo-Olu urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of these resources made available to them.
“You are expected to make judicious use of these resources. They are not gifts to be kept away but put to good use to facilitate your journey to becoming economically and financially independent as well as employers of labour.” He said.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the governor noted that the MESI initiative is a social inclusion policy geared toward ensuring that no one is left behind in the collective journey to the Greater Lagos dream.
He disclosed that the state government was earnestly developing Social Safety Nets through various programmes.
“We offer direct assistance such as cash transfers, food vouchers, healthcare subsidies, access to quality education, alleviating immediate hardships and improving citizens overall well-being among others.” He said.
Meanwhile the empowerment tools disbursed to the beneficiaries, who were reportedly selected from skill acquisition centres across the state, include Milling Machines, Sewing machines, Professional Hair-dryers, Barbing clippers with Sterilizing units and Generators.
Other empowerment tools disbursed, as reported by NAN, are Pop-corn machines, Sharwama Grillers and Toasting machines, Snail Pens, Industrial Cookers, Tile Laying Machines, as well as Gari Processing Equipment.
