The Presidency has reacted to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, who called for the intervention of the United States President, Donald Trump, over Nigeria’s democracy.
NPO Reported that Turaki had yesterday asked Trump to save Nigeria’s democracy following clash between his faction and the Samuel Anyanwu-led faction, backed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the party’s headquartes in Abuja.
While the Anyanwu faction had earlier arrived at the Wadata Plaza, the Turaki-led faction backed by Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde, forced their way through the secretariat.
Addressing newsmen after the fiasco, Turaki called on Trump and other developed nations to save Nigeria’s democracy which he claimed to be under threat.
“I want to call on President Trump. What is at take is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians. He should come and save democracy in Nigeria.
“Democracy is under threat. I’m calling on all other developed nations, all advanced democracy to come and save Nigeria.” Turaki had said.
Reacting to the PDP Chairman’s claim in a post on his X handle, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accused Turaki of committing high treason for calling for foreign invasion of Nigeria due to intra-party dispute.
Onanuga held that the video which captured the moment Turaki made the call will never be forgotten.
“We shall never forget this video: the day a Nigerian politician committed high treason for calling for a foreign invasion of Nigeria, all because of intra-party dispute” He wrote.
