The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar has called on security agencies to get to the root of the explosion that rocked the campaign rally of the All Progressive Congress in PortHarcourt the Rivers State capital on Thursday.
NPO Reported earlier that an explosion had occurred at the APC rally causing injuries to many.
Atiku said his party had cried out before now over incessant attacks on members of his party.
He said the PDP’s worst fears had been confirmed.
There should be no place for violence and anti-democratic manifestations in this election.
“We’ve already committed to that in the peace pact we all signed up to,” Atiku stated via his Twitter page
Saying that “Elections are not a do-or-die affair but an opportunity to reinforce our belief in democracy through our leadership choices via adult suffrage,” the PDP presidential candidate said “Once again, I call on security agencies to ensure that those behind this dastardly act, including their promoters, are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to copycats who may be emboldened to thread this same anti-democratic path.”
Reminding Nigerians he had been complaining of violence, he said “we did not want it to become a pattern if those engaged in anti-democratic activities were not brought to book.”
