The Nigerian Senate has declared the seat of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, vacant.
Following his inauguration and assumption to office as governor in November, the Red Chamber declared his seat as Edo Central Senatorial District representative vacant during the plenary on Wednesday.
The red chamber urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacancy.
Recall that Okpebholo had contested for the September 2024 Edo governorship election under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
His emergence as the winner of the election over the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, brought an abrupt end to his Senate membership.
With his assumption to office, a bye-election will be conducted by INEC to fill his vacant seat at the upper chamber.
