The members of Senate has passed vote of confidence in Godswil Akapabio, pledging their support to his leadership as against rumoured impeachment threat.
Reacting to a report on the Senate President’s alleged impeachment plot by members of the house, the lawmakers debunked the claim.
They affirmed their backing of the leadership of the Senate under Akapbio as Senator Yahaya Abdullahi raised the motion for the vote of confidence.
Addressing the house, Abdullahi maintained that there is no attempt by northern Senators to challenge the leadership of the Senate.
He labelled the claim as a disguised attempt to cause division within the chamber.
“About the fake news and rumours yesterday on social media about alleged attempt by northern Senators to change the leadership of this revered institution, Mr. President, I consider this statement as a disguised attempt to bring a very serious division in this institution.
“Election was conducted and the leadership had won the election. We have gone more than one year and eight months and under your leadership, you have guided the senate to this position.
“I am a northern senator, therefore my pledge has been compromised and abridged by this allegation. I am senior member of northern senators and I can assure you that there is no attempt that I know of by any quarters or any group among the northern Senators to bring discord or any attempt to challenge the legitimacy of your election or undermine the work you have been doing in this Senate.” Abdullahi said.
Following the passing of the vote of confidence, Akpabio expressed his gratitude to the Senate members while assuring them of maintaining the bond between the members.
“I can assure you that the comradeship and the bond existing in the 10th Senate continues. No social media will come here to break that bond.” The Senate President said.
