President Bola Tinubu has mourned the demise of renowned Nigerian Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi (OFR).
NPO Reported that Usman-Bauchi passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi State.
The Islamic scholar was confirmed to have died at the age of 101 as against initial report which claimed he died at 98.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed his sadness over the demise of Usman-Bauchi.
The President described the late leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood as a moral compass who dedicated his life to teaching and preaching.
Tinubu, as quoted by Onanguga, said Sheikh Bauchi’s loss is monumental not only to his family and teeming followers but also to the nation.
The President recalled the blessings and moral support he received from the late Islamic scholar in the run-off to the 2023 election.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Quran, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” Tinubu said.
He condoled with the Sheikh’s followers across the country and beyond for the irreparable loss.
The President also urged them to immortalise the late cleric by holding on to his teachings of peaceful coexistence, strengthening their relationship with God and being kind to humanity.
