Jonathan, who was defeated by Buhari at the 2015 General election, had alongside Akufo-Addo paid tribute to the late ex-President.
They described Buhari as a dedicated leader who served Nigeria with honour and stood firmly for integrity and national unity throughout his public life.
Jonathan commended Buhari’s contributions to democratic governance and national stability, noting that his legacy would continue to shape the country’s political landscape for years to come.
On his part, Akufo-Addo recalled Buhari’s strong pan-African stance, saying the former Nigerian leader championed regional peace, economic cooperation, and the fight against terrorism in West Africa.
NPO Reported that Buhari passed away on Sunday evening at a London hospital after prolonged illness.
In the wake of the ex-President’s demise, his successor, President Bola Tinubu had directed a selected delegate led by Shettima to accompany Buhari’s body back home from London.
The delegation comprises Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum.
Also in the team are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia.
The presidency stated that every effort was being made to ensure a dignified return and a befitting burial for the late statesman.
