The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has disclosed, that her genealogy test conducted a couple years ago revealed she is 43% Nigerian.
Markle revealed this in her latest podcast on Spotify, Archetypes, while conversing with Senegalese-American actress, Issa Rae and Nigerian-American comedian, Ziwe Fumudoh.
In her latest episode titled, ‘Upending The Angry Black Women Myth’, she admitted she is ‘particular’ but insisted ‘telling people what you need does not make you demanding’ as she claimed black women are stereotyped as ‘angry’.
Speaking to Nigerian-American comedian Ziwe, Meghan explained that she had done a genealogy test couple years ago
She said, “I just had my genealogy done a couple of years ago.”
When her guests asked her to share what the results entailed, the Duchess said, “I’m 43% Nigerian,” to the shock of Ziwe, who responded, “No way!”.
Ziwe further asked, “Are you serious? This is huge. Igbo, Yoruba, do we know?”
The Duchess of Sussex replied saying, “I’m going to start to dig deeper into all of this because anyone that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are just like, what?”
However, this is the first time Meghan has opened up about her ancestral background to the public.
