No fewer than six persons have been confirmed dead with five others injured in multiple acident at Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Acting Sector Commander in Kogi, Samuel Ogundayo, in Lokoja, the state capital.
According to Ogundayo, the tragic incident involving seven vehicles occurred at Okenkwe community of Okene, around 8.30p.m. on Monday.
The FRSC boss recounted how a truck lost its break and rolled backward after failed attempt to climb the Okengwe hill.
In the process, it crushed two tricycles, three cars and rammed into another truck.
“The tragic and unfortunate incident left six people dead, and five others injured. The FRSC rescue operatives who arrived at the accident scene in good time rushed the injured to the Referral Hospital, Okene, for treatment. At the same time, the corpses of the dead were deposited at the Mortuary of the Onene General Hospital,” Ogundayo said.
The commander reportedly urged motorists to always take precautions by giving good distance to trucks on highways, especially in hilly areas so as to avoid any eventuality at break loss.
He also harped on the need to keep to the traffic rules and regulations in order to reduce crashes and carnage on the roads.
