The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has dismissed reports of the re-arrest of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.
NPO earlier Reported that the activist had on Friday appeared before the Kuje Magistrate Court hours after been arrested at the Federal High Court where he met with the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu yesterday.
Sowore was detained yesterday before being arraigned alongside Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and 10 others.
They were arraigned over alleged incitement of public disturbance and breach of peace in connection with the #FreeNnamdiKanu Now protest held in Abuja.
The magistrate, in its ruling, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties.
However, the celebration of the activist’s release by his supporters was cut short as police again stormed the court premises and reportedly whisked him away.
Sowore is reportedly expected to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, on a fresh charge related to his claim that President Bola Tinubu is a criminal.
In reaction to the report in a post on his X handle, Hundeyin refuted the claim.
The Police spokesperson clarified that Sowore was only taken to prison pending the time he meets his bail conditions.
He maintained that a person arrested on a fresh charge cannot be taken straight to prison.
