Nigerian human rights activist and 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has threatened to stage a protest at the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Passing Out Parade (POP) over the two months extension of the service year of Ushie Rita, the corp member who criticised the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
NPO Reported that Ushie had in March taken to her TikTok page to express her distress over the soaring cost of living particularly as a corp member.
While decrying the economic condition of the country, the Lagos-based corp member called Tinubu a “terrible President”.
The video had triggered reactions from activists and members of the public after she was allegedly threatened by the NYSC board who ordered her to pull down the video.
She was however summoned by her Local Government Inspector with Sowore accompanying her the NYSC official’s office.
Meanwhile NYSC on Tuesday extended Ushie’s service year by two months over the incident.
Reacting to the development in a post on his X handle, Sowore condemned the extension.
He vowed to mobilize protesters to the NYSC POP ground.
“This @officialABAT Tinubu regime might go down with the Rita Raye’s National Youth Service Corps @officialnyscng matter.
“This is not acceptable, we will mobilize down to the Passing Out Parade except Rita is allowed to complete her NYSC national service without let or hindrance.” He wrote.
