The Super Eagles of Nigeria have emerged winner of the 2025 Unity Cup as they edged past Jamaica in a 5-4 penalty shootout after the game ended 2-2.
Having knocked out the Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday, the Eric Chelle-led Eagles faced off with the Reggae Boyz at the Brentford Stadium in London, England.
Nigeria took an early lead courtesy Moses Simon’s 9th minute opener.
Jamaica however pulled a quick leveller as Dixon fired past Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali in the 12th minute.
While the first half ended in 1-1 draw, Super Eagles against took the lead in the second half as A Milan forward, Samuel Chukwueze scored a solo goal in the 53rd minute.
Again, Jamaica leveled the score in the 63rd minute, sending the match to penalties.
Jamaica converted their first three spot kicks but the missed the fourth kick giving Nigeria a vantage point to win the cup as the Super Eagles converted all five penalties.
The decisive moment reportedly came when Getafe’s Chrisantus Uche, making his senior debut, calmly slotted home the winning penalty, sealing the Unity Cup for the Super Eagles.
The win, which marked Eric Chelle’s first trophy, saw the Super Eagles lift the trophy for the second consecutive time.
