Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has been placed in an induced coma after undergoing surgery over an abdominal injury.
The Nottingham Forest player had sustained the injury during the English Premier League match against Leicester City on Sunday.
According to report, the incident occurred late in the game at the City Ground, as the Nigeria international’s midriff collided heavily with the goalpost during the 2-2 draw with their East Midlands rivals.
The collision had led to the striker undergoing the surgery on Monday night
While the surgery was considered urgent and necessary, Awoniyi’s was confirmed not to be life-threatening.
Nottingham Forest had suffered setbacks over the past six Premier League fixtures which had dented their hope of European football next season.
Awoniyi’s long absence contributed to the drop in form of the one-time winner of the UEFA Champions League.
