Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele, has been arrested by officials of the Directorate of State Security.
This happened shortly after the arrest of the apex bank governor.
NPO Reported earlier that Emefiele was suspended on the orders of President Bola Tinubu.
A letter of suspension was issued from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Emefiele’s suspension has not come as a surprise to many as he has been at the centre of a Naira redesign controversy which happened last year.
President Tinubu had openly criticized the new Naira policy at the time accusing authorities of using it to frustrate his campaigns.
According to the source, the DSS had even gone to court to secure an order to effect Emefiele’s arrest for alleged terrorism financing when contacted, the Spokesperson of the Service Dr.Peter Afunnaya declined comment.
Shortly before the exit of President Muhammadu Buhari, former Governor of Zamfara state Bello Matawalle, had hinted of plans by Emefiele to leave Nigeria.
He had said in a letter to Buhari then not to grant any request for study abroad as a way of evading rendering accounts of his stewardship.
It is believed that Emefiele will answer for the issues surrounding the sudden redesign of the Naira.
On Saturday, former Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore asked the DSS to also go after Buhari and others who may have had hands in the policy.
The Naira redesign had caused serious upset in the economy creating hunger and scarcity of money.
