Former Sokoto State Governor, Sen. Aminu Tambuwal, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of partisanship over the commission’s de-recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership.
NPO Reported that INEC had last week withdrew its recognition of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the ADC over ongoing litigation cases against the faction.
The development had sparked outrage from the Mark-led faction of the party and their supporters as they accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of influencing INEC’s decision in alleged bid to see President Bola Tinubu emerge as sole candidate ahead of the 2027 Presidential election.
The faction would on Wednesday stage a protest at the INEC headquarters in Abuja with all the ADC leaders spearheading the protest.
While joining the protest, Tambuwal, in a post on his X handle, reiterated the party’s allegation against INEC.
He maintained that the ADC leaders had resorted to the protest in a bid to ensure that the electoral process remains credible, fair, and transparent.
“Alongside other leaders of the ADC, I am participating in a peaceful protest against the perceived partisanship of the electoral umpire.
“This patriotic action is driven by our collective commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring that our electoral process remains credible, fair, and transparent.” Tambuwal wrote.
The ex-Sokoto governor charged Nigerians to resist attempt to undermine democratic institutions.
“We must resist any attempt to undermine democratic institutions or pave the way for authoritarian tendencies. Our stance is not just political, it is a duty to protect the integrity of our nation and preserve the will of the people.” He added.
