Tension has erupted in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state as angry mob lynched man to death hours after the state government’s removal curfew.
NPO Reported that the state government had on Sunday declared 48-hour curfew following the deadly gunmen attack on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
The assailants claimed the lives of over 30 residents with several others injured.
While the state government had declared the curfew in a bid to avoid escalation, residents however took to the street since Monday in protest over the killings.
Their agitation would escalate on Wednesday as youths armed with sticks bottles, machete, and other dangerous items attacked a yet-to-be identified man along the University of Jos Road.
A disturbing video of the incident which reportedly occurred earlier today and shared on X, showed the mob hitting the man with sticks and machetes along busy the road until he became motionless after being struck in the head with a stick by one of the mobs.
Meanwhile, the violent attack was also reported in several parts of the council area including on the University of Jos campus where students could be seen running over alleged invasion of the campus by armed men.
Another clip showed the arrival of police officers at a street where clash had broken out among some youths.
While the actual cause of the escalation is yet to be confirmed, speculations had however linked the incidents to religious clash as some group of armed men suspected to be Muslims were alleged to have attacked a branch of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Nasarawa Gwong area of Jos North LGA.
Video of the church share on X showed shattered window glasses and stones allegedly hurled into the church premises by the attackers.
