There was panic in Abuja metropolis late Tuesday as there were reports of shootings at the Area 1 of the metropolis.
The shootings allegedly took place a day after the reported killing of two operatives of the National Guards at the Bwari Area of the Federal Capital Territory.
Residents said there was pandemonium in the Area 1 when they heard gunshots while motorists beat hurried retreats to avert being caught in the fire exchange.
NPO Reports that the situation led to many parts of the FCT to be deserted as early as 8pm on Tuesday.
Areas such as Dantata Bridge and Minister’s Hill were deserted as no one knew what the cause of the gunshots were.
It was learnt that some soldiers were engaged in a gun duel with some terrorists who were said to be aiming for a late night assault on residents.
This was just as gory videos of two soldiers who were killed by terrorists were seen while they were being evacuated.
The killings confirmed security reports of a planned massive attacks on the FCT by insurgents.
There is tension among residents as many estates review their security strategies in the face of the rising insecurity in the country’s seat of power.
The Army or the police as at Wednesday morning, was yet to give update on what happened over the shooting.
