There is tension in parts of Lagos state such as Ikeja, Ojota, Ketu, Maryland, Ojelegba on Monday as men of the Nigerian Army attacked many officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency. The attacks were said to be a reprisal after a soldier was reportedly attacked by a LASTMA officer at the Ojota area of the state at the weekend.
The soldiers were armed with guns while descending on the officer with punches and planks before disappearing from the scene.
It was gathered that the victim, in a state of stupor, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, through the Director Operations, Mr. A. Peter, confirmed the incident
He said: “We have reported the incident to the higher authorities of the army. They are already intervening in the matter.
Apart from the Ojota scene, it was gathered that officials of LASTMA were attacked in different locations in the state. The development had forced officers of the traffic management agency to quit their duty posts for fear of falling victims of the rampaging soldiers.
