The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (formerly Lagos State Polytechnic) has dismissed three lecturers over alleged sexual harrasment on female students.
This was disclosed in a now viral WhatsApp broadcast message on Saturday.
As contained in the broadcast message, the lecturers identified as Nurudeen Hassan, Kareem Arigbabu, and Olayinka Uthman, were dismissed after thorough investigation and deliberation.
While maintaining a strong stance against the allegations, the institution held that the dismissal of the lecturers is in compliance with Section 5.5.2 (v) of the University’s Senior Staff Conditions of Service.
“The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has taken decisive action in response to allegations of sexual harassment involving three staff members.
“After a thorough investigation and deliberation, the council has approved the dismissal of: Mr. Nurudeen Hassan, Mr. Kareem Arigbabu, Mr. Olayinka Uthman
“This decision, effective immediately, is under Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service.
“The university takes allegations of sexual harassment seriously, as they compromise the institution’s image and disrupt the academic environment.
“The Governing Council’s decision reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus community.” The post read.
NPO Reports also confirmed the dismissal in a telephone conversation with the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Olanrenwaju Kuye, who shared the broadcast message with our correspondent.
