At least three police officers have been shot dead as unknown gunmen attacked their checkpoint in Kogi State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning at Egbe Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.
While confirming the incident in a telephone conversation with NPO Reports correspondent, the Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP William Aya, disclosed that the officers were ambushed by the gunmen and attacked.
Aya said that the state Police Commissioner had since deployed tactical team to scene and are currently on the trail of the assailants.
“The Commissioner of Police has deployed our tactical team to the area already.
“They have launched a manhunt on the assailants with the view to apprehend them.
“Our Counterterrorism, Quick Response team, and other tactical teams including the Intelligence Unit are currently in the area.
“They are also working in hand with other security agencies.” the Police Spokesperson said.
