In an effort to ease Nigerians battling with kidney-related diseases of the cost of kidney dialysis, President Bola Tinubu has approved 76 percent subsidy on the cost of each dialysis session.
This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
According to the statement, the President’s approval of the subsidy will see the reduction in the price of each dialysis session from N50,000 to just N12,000.
Dare disclosed that the subsidy is already being implemented in major federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones.
The federal hospitals as highlighted by the Presidential spokesperson include, the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja; University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri; and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri.
Others include the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta; Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare; University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin; and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar.
While assuring Nigerians of the inclusion of more federal medical centres and teaching hospitals before the end of the year, Dare recalled that the President had last year also approved free cesarean sections (C-sections) for pregnant women in federal hospitals.
This, according to him, was aimed at boosting maternal healthcare and reducing preventable maternal deaths.
