Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola appears pissed by the ongoing exchange of words between presidential candidates of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his Peoples Democratic Party’s counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
He has advised both to stop the debate on religion and other issues that do not concern Nigerians and tell them what they plan to do over prosperity and stability of Nigeria, post-Buhari administration.
This was just as he state that his former boss, Tinubu is the best for Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
Fashola, in an interview on Channels Television on Sunday however regretted the exchange of words between Tinubu and Atiku.
The former Governor of Lagos State who said he has a personal relationship with both Tinubu and Atiku, noted that Nigerians are waiting for what they have in plans for them.
He condemned the exchange of words describing them as distractions.
“I think for both men, the exchange of words at best I am going to call it a stumble, I hope it is not a tumble in the sense that they should quickly recalibrate and get back to the issues. And that is what concerns Nigerians,” Fashola said
Suggesting the debates Nigerians should have, Fashola said what should be atop discussions should be “How do we move ourselves to the prosperity that is imminent that this country will have because I know that will happen.”
Asked who is the best person to drive the Nigerian vehicle, Fashola said “In my opinion I think Asiwaju is the best to drive that vehicle because I have worked with him at very close quarters. I know his capacity, I know his tenacity.”
Speaking further, the Minister said “Sometimes we need to test some hypothesis. The opportunity to test the hypothesis is there. My position has been made known at different platforms.
“I think religion should leave the public space and go back to where it belongs to the homes and the religious centres.
“There is too much of religion in public life. There are no nations that I know that would like to be like that is valourising religion. It’s a private thing. Praying in public; I think we should just stop them and get down to the real business. When you are in the office, you go and do your work.”
