President Bola Tinubu has celebrated with former Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC), Mutiu Sunmonu, CON, over his 70th birthday.
The President, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, joined family, friends, and associates in celebrating the technocrat and boardroom player.
Sunmonu who currently serves as Chairman of Petralon Energy, a pioneering indigenous exploration and production company, was described as a corporate titan and respected figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, whose life has been marked by resilience, visionary leadership, and commitment to national development.
As quoted by Onanuga, the President hailed the oil and gas guru for his diligence and enduring faith Nigeria.
Tinubu described him as an inspiration to the next generation of Nigerian technocrats and entrepreneur.
“Your exemplary life of diligence, integrity, and enduring faith in Nigeria demonstrated through your continuous interest in the oil and gas sector has significantly advanced skills development, employment generation, and increased crude oil production,
“You are a shining example and an inspiration to the next generation of Nigerian technocrats and entrepreneurs,” the President stated.
Tinubu further commended Sunmonu for his service and dedication to the oil and gas sector.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings on him and wishes him good health, renewed strength, and a sound mind in the years ahead.
After retiring from Shell, Sunmonu, a University of Lagos and Harvard University, alumnus became a sought-after corporate expert.
He chaired the board of many companies, including Julius Berger Plc, from which he recently stepped down.
He is also a non-executive director of the Nigerian Exchange Group.
