President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi.
This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Bashir’s tenure which is due to expire on the 31st of August 2025, was extended by one year.
The President’s approval of the Customs Comptroller-General’s tenure was claimed to enable him to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration.
As highlighted by Onanuga, the initiatives include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service; the implementation of the National Single Window Project; and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
Onanuga maintained that Tinubu recognises Bashir’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.
The President expressed confidence that the extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
