President Bola Tinubu has hailed the Super Eagles for keeping the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hope alive with their emphatic 4-0 victory over the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic.
NPO Reported that the Nigerian national team had on Tuesday went all out at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, where Victor Osimehn’s hat-trick and Frank Onyeka’s late goal saw Nigeria finished second on the group C table.
The goal galore fired the Super Eagles into the third spot of the top four second-placed finisher to secure a playoff spot for the team.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the Super Eagles for the hunger, passion, and determination displayed on the field in Uyo.
He noted that the superlative performance has reignited Nigerians’ football pride.
The President however charged the Super Eagles to ensure Nigeria gets its deserved place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as he assured them of his administration’s support.
”While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs.
” The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.
