A former Commissioner for Education in Bauchi state, Dr. Aliyu Tilde, has said President Bola Tinubu’s appointment will be the defining factor in making or marring his administration. Tilde had in December 2022, resigned from his position as the state Commissioner for Education under Governor Bala Mohammed. In a short statement on Sunday, which was titled TINUBU: The Most Defining Fortnight, he said multiple factors would come into play as the President jostle among others to consider competent Nigerians for different positions in his government. “But overall, the most important determinant is his sincerity of purpose,” Tilde wrote. Tilde said Tinubu’s appointments so far have shown that he is striking a balance between politics and service. “We hope he would conjure same in the thousands of appointments ahead which will make or mar his administration,” he wrote He said picking good Nigerians into his government would lead to performance while bad ones would definitely create difficulties for his administration. “Speculations are high that President Tinubu is about to reveal his ministerial appointees and heads of some parastatals. To me, this is his most defining task. It is a time he is choosing drivers for the trip across the Sahara of his administration. Good drivers will get us across; bad ones will leave us stranded in the middle of nowhere, once more. The choice is his.” Tilde said Tinubu “promised himself and the nation to hunt for the best” adding that “Nigeria presents him with a wide range to choose from: between some of the finest and some of the worst brains on the planet. The choice is his.” Expressing the hopes that the President would demonstrate his skills for identifying the best, he wrote, “We hope he would conjure same in the thousands of appointments ahead which will make or mar his administration. Once he gets it right, many will rally around him to ensure that the country moves forward.” President Tinubu was sworn in on May 29 to begin a first term of four years. Already, he has made some appointments which include Special Advisers, heads of the security services and few personal aides. Nigerians are on the lookout for those who would make the list of his Federal Executive Council and those to man the various government agencies especially the revenue generating ones.
