Nigerian music artist, Folarin Falana (Falz), has claimed that the President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is unconstitutional.
NPO reported that the President had suspended the Fubara-led administration for six months following the declaration of state of emergency on Rivers over its political crisis and unrest.
Reacting in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Falz held that there is no no law that allows a president to suspend a governor.
The lawyer turned musician maintained that an elected governor can only be removed by impeachment.
Citing the provision of the constitution which highlighted the conditions under which a state of emergency can be declared, Falz asked if Rivers was indeed in a state of war or a threat to the existence of the federation to have warranted Tinubu’s declaration.
“Rivers State, there is ABSOLUTELY NO LAW that allows a president to SUSPEND a governor. A Governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment.
“Also, is Rivers state at war? Is there “actual breakdown of public order”? Is there a threat to the existence of the federation?” Falz asked.
