Violent protest has broken out at Benue state following President Bola Tinubu’s arrival on Wednesday as angry youths stormed the streets, tearing the All Progressives Congress (APC) flags and removing the billboards erected in his honour.
NPO Reported the President’s arrival at the state’s capital, Makurdi, for a one-day condolence visit to victims of herdsmen attack at Yelewata town during the weekend.
Coupled with the declaration of public holiday, the Benue state government had mounted appreciation and campaign billboards along Makurdi road with APC flags hoisted by the party’s supporters in anticipation for the President’s arrival.
This however triggered protest by angry Benue youths who stormed the streets, destroying the APC flags and billboards.
As captured in separate videos shared on X, the protesters could be heard chanting “no flag” with one of the protesters seen attempting to tear an APC flag.
Gunshot could also be heard in one the videos as the protest raged on.
