The Osun Progressive, a group within the All Progressive Congress in Osun State is helping the party to stay together in the face of alleged poor management of the party’s affairs by Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
This was the statement by the Chairman of TOP, Elder Lowo Adebiyi, while speaking in Iwo on Wednesday during the official inauguration of the group for the Iwo Federal Constituency.
At the event were Deputy Chairman of the APC in Osun, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji; Secretary of the APC in Osun, Alhaji Rasaq Salinsile, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Kolapo Alimi; former Special Adviser on Information and Strategy in the state, Alhaji Semiu Okanlawon and a former Special Adviser in the state on Taxation, Barr Gbenga Akano.
Others are a former House of Representatives aspirant Hon. Posi Adiatu and the Coordinator of the TOP in Iwo, Hon. Yemi Abolusodun.
Speaking, Adebiyi said but for the emergence of TOP, the entire APC would have collapsed in the state, adding that those who formed TOP felt the need for a remedial situation to ensure that APC does not get relegated in the state.
“It is heartwarming to realize that the people of Osun are getting to understand the essence and rationale behind the formation of TOP. Now, people can understand that TOP came up as a response to what looks like a determination to kill our party in Osun and pave way for the opposition.
“The fact that all and sundry can recognize is that this party has toiled to change the fortune of the state since the coming of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
“What the people voted for was for the party to continue with the development of the state as initiated by the Aregbesola administration. But what have they seen? There is lack of leadership and everything is falling apart and we cannot continue to look away. They have done everything to make our party become a joke. This is why TOP came out,” Adebiyi said.
The Deputy Vice Chairman, Adeniji also said that those who did not know the heavy price paid to take over Osun are now the ones dictating the affairs.
“They don’t know how we got here. And that is why you can see them treating the party this way. But we have come to bring back life to the party ahead of 2022,” the Deputy Chairman of APC said
Salinlsile told the huge gathering that TOP is seeking to return APC to a party where commitment to the party’s growth would be a major factor.
He said those who work for the APC will be rewarded accordingly adding that TOP seeks to bring back internal democracy to the party.
