The Nigerian military troops have handed over the abducted students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, hours after their rescue from the bandits’ den.
NPO Reported that the 24 Kebbi schoolgirls regained their freedom after one week in captivity.
The students were last week Monday abducted from their hostel by the armed men who killed the school security personnel and Vice Principal during the attack.
Their abduction had sparked alongside other reported attacks and abductions in Niger and Kwara states had sparked nationwide call for their release.
While the Federal Government had Sunday confirmed the release of kidnapped victims in Kwara and Niger states attack, the Kebbi schoolgirls’ release was announced on Tuesday with a video showing moment they were transported away from the bandits’ den.
In the wake of their rescue, the military would hand them over to Idris in the early hours of Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
They were handed over to the governor by the Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Warrah Idris, who was acting on the directive of the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle.
According to reports, all the students were handed over hale and hearty to the government. No deaths or injuries recorded.
The girls have been scheduled to be finally reunited with their parents after undergoing medical examination.
