Newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, has formally assumed office at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja amid clash with the party’s faction led by the expelled National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
Turaki had at last week emerged as the new national chairman at the PDP’s National Convention held in Ibadan Oyo state.
He would however face a daunting task of assuming role at the Wadata Plaza which was occupied by the Anyanwu-led faction.
Ahead of the face-off, Turaki yesterday paid a visit to the Nigerian Police Headquarters in Abuja where he announced that the inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting will be held today.
With the meeting clashing with the emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting earlier announced on Monday by the Anyanwu-led faction, the Wadata Plaza was tipped to be a stage for epic showdown between both factions.
As presumed, clash erupted between the two factions of the party.
However, Turaki made his way to the National Chairman’s office alongside Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde.
The trio had forced their way into the secretariat following their arrival.
Videos shared on X showed moment they forced the Wadata Plaza’s gate after few minutes of duel between their supporters and the security operatives stationed at the gate.
