A least two people have been confirmed injured as a fuel tanker exploded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
This is coming hours after similar explosion was reported at Obawole area of Fagba, Lagos.
According to report, the Lagos-Ibadan expressway incident involved tanker laden with a petroleum product exploded after it fell at the NASFAT axis of the expressway on Wednesday.
The explosion also led to traffic congestion, leaving many commuters stranded.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the injured were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Shagamu.
Also confirming the incident was the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) which deployed rescue teams to the scene.
The sector’s spokesperson Florence Okpe disclosed that the explosion occurred on the outbound Lagos lane of the expressway with commuters diverted through an alternative route.
“A fallen laden tanker at NASFAT turning, outbound Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, exploded. Traffic is seriously affected. Fire services were contacted, and motorists coming from Lagos were diverted through Christ Embassy Camp,” she said.
