The United States Embassy in Abuja has announced the closure of its office in honour of late former President, Jimmy Carter.
This was contained in a post on the embassy’s X handle on Wednesday.
According to the post, the embassy as well as the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Thursday to honour the late Carter who died on the 29th of December 2024.
The U.S Embassy described the former President as a tireless advocate for peace, democracy, and human rights.
He was also the first U.S President to visit Nigeria.
The statement partly read; “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in honor of former President Carter’s passing.
“We remember former President Jimmy Carter, a tireless advocate for peace, democracy, and human rights.
“As the first U.S. President to visit Nigeria, he strengthened U.S.-Nigeria relations and supported Nigeria’s democratic process. His legacy continues to inspire us.”
