The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), has called on news leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa to apply for scholarships to enable them participate in an online leadership program.
It was stated, that the Google News Initiative (GNI), will be supporting the University’s Journalism and Leadership Program (JIL) by offering 30 scholarships, in which 15 of them will be set aside for participants from Sub-Saharan Africa.
“News leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa can apply for scholarships to participate in an online leadership program.
“The Google News Initiative (GNI) is supporting the University of Central Lancashire’s Journalism Innovation and Leadership Program (JIL), by offering 30 scholarships, of which 15 scholarships are available for participants from Sub-Saharan Africa.
The program will however offer a 30-week part time postgraduate certificate and a two-year master’s of arts course and participants are also eligible to travel grants to join the learning program in South Africa.

“The 2023 JIL program offers a 30-week part-time, postgraduate certificate and a two-year master’s of arts course.
“Participants are also eligible for travel grants to join the intensive learning block in Cape Town, South Africa.
Since its UK launch in 2020, media professionals from 10 countries have participated in the distance-learning JIL Programme and have been invited to attend intensive learning blocks in Preston.
Now, for the first time, the programme will launch in Sub-Saharan Africa next January alongside the UK-based programme.
The deadline is Nov. 15.
