A United Kingdom-based Nigerian activist, Kayde Ogundamisi, has expressed doubt over the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) ability to funds of Nigerian subscribers from the cryptocurrency trading platform, CBEX.
NPO Reported that several Nigerians who have invested in the platform were on Monday thrown into despair after the platform crashed.
However, the EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who spoke on Channels TV Good Morning Show on Wednesday disclosed that the Commission is currently working with Interpol in ensuring that all CBEX investors get their money back.
“It will be very irresponsible and unprofessional of the EFCC to say that Oh you have lost, there is nothing the commission can do about it. Certainly no.
“We are already working with Interpol, and we are already working with our international development agencies to ensure that this people are brought to book.
“Investors are going to get their money back. We are already working on that. This kind of thing could have been averted, but be it as it may, it was not averted. Yet we are not going to throw our hand and say there’s nothing the EFCC can do about. We are more responsible and more professional than that.” Oyewale said.
Reacting to the EFCC’s spokesperson’s claim in a post on his X handle on Thursday, Ogundamisi, described the EFCC’s claim as a wild promise.
The activist held that the chance of recovering the money from the cryptocurrency trading platform is very slim.
“Why is the EFCC official making such a wild promise. The chances of CBEX scam victims recovering funds are VERY SLIM.
“What is the meaning of “working with international development agencies”.? To do what exactly?” Ogundamisi wrote.
