The National Executive Committee of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has commenced a meeting to deliberate on whether to resume the suspended strike or continue at their duty posts.
Members of the union had been shocked last week when the got bank alerts which however showed that the Federal Government had paid only half of the month of October after they agreed to call off their strike.
Some local branches of the Union had held meetings last week with some of them saying the strike should resume. Many Nigerians have also condemned the action of the government and accused it of betrayal and a show of disdain for the academics.
As at the time of filing this report, the meeting had commenced at the campus of the University of Abuja with the President of the union, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, presiding.
NPO Reports learnt from reliable sources close to the meeting that opinions are divided over the decision by some branches to resume strike.
Recall that the union suspended its almost nine months strike in October after an intervention by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The ASUU president had accused Minister of Education Adamu Adamu and his Labour and Productivity counterpart, Chris Ngige of working against the interests of the lecturers and future of Nigerian students by show lack of interests in ending the strike.
