There is palpable concern in Osun as the Supreme Court today decides who between Governor Ademola Adeleke and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola is the true winner of the July 16 governorship election in the state.
The apex court had on Monday, after adopting the addresses of both parties, announced that it would deliver judgment today (Tuesday).
The announcement has created panic among loyalists of the All Progressive Congress and the People’s Democratic Party who are looking forward to the judgment.
The election tribunal had earlier declared Oyetola winner of the election, a decision challenged by Adeleke at the Appellate court.
After setting aside the judgment of the tribunal, the appeal court, had awarded N500,000 cost against the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola. The judgment was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal. There is tension in the state as supporters of both parties wait with bated breath what comes out of the apex on Tuesday.
NPO Reports gathered that security is being beefed up in the state especially Osogbo the state capital to forestall any possible reaction that might arise from the judgement.
It was learnt that Governor Adeleke held a special security meeting late Monday.
The details of the meeting was not known.
An attempt to speak with Yemisi Opalola, police spokeswoman in the state was not possible as at press time with her phone number switched off.
A source at the police command however told the NPO Reports that some detachment of police officers would be deployed before noon on Tuesday.
The judgment is expected to be delivered at 2pm.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Adeleke winner of the election ousting incumbent Oyetola .
It was the second time Adeleke was contesting the election having slugged it out with Oyetola in 2018.
