A 34 year old Saudi Woman who is a student in the United Kingdom, Salma al-Shehab, has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for using the micro-blogging Apps Twitter.
She was accused of using her handle and messages to cause unrest by spreading messages of dissidents.
Al-Shehab’s jail term came weeks after the of the United States’ President, Joe Biden.
The convict has two children and currently a student of the University of Leeds.
Her sentencing also heightens apprehensions over the allegation that the leader of the country, crown princeMohammed bin Salman has decided to crack down on users of the social media apps in the latest case of repression.
This is despite the prince being in control of major indirect stake in the US social media company through Saudi’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Salma al-Shehab, whose jail period was initially 3 years was slammed with 34 years by an Appeal Court on Wednesday.
Her sentencing is causing uproar and outrage across the world.
