Nigerian Social Media Influencer and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has called out Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) for withdrawing his mother’s salary over alleged fantom loan.
The activist had in a video posted on his TikTok on Thursday recounted how his sister informed him about their his mother’s ordeal.
In a WhatsApp voice note played in the video by VDM, the lady narrated how GTBank had been allegedly deducting the salary of their mother since January in settlement of the alleged loan.
“Since early this year, any money that enters Mummy’s account, GTBank has been deducting it. They claimed she collected loan which she did not.
“Now today, she just entered and she wasn’t looking okay, like she was crying. She said they paid her salary today but has been deducted again by GTBank, leaving only N3,000 in the account. She doesn’t know who took loan with her phone and she has tried visiting the bank countless time.” The activist’s narrated in the voice note.
Reacting, VDM said that her mother, who is a teacher, had never mentioned such to her.
While expressing his displeasure with the service of GTBank, the activist faulted the bank’s inability to identify the perpetrator of the act.
He also confirmed that his mother has been visiting the bank to clarify the issue, but the bank insisted that she took a loan, claiming that her National Identification Number was used in processing the loan.
VDM hinted the possibility of other customers of the bank having similar experience as he recalled the ordeal of Seun Kuti, son of Nigerian afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
According to VDM, Seun had disclosed noticing frequent deduction from his Dollar Account with GTBank.
“If my Mama dey cry, just know say a lot of people dey cry. I remember vividly one day, Seun Kuti called me dey vex for phone say Dem dey remove dollars from his Dollar account. He printed his bank statement to prove what he was saying. He said they went as far as deducting $500, $300.
“Now you removed my mother’s money claiming somebody used her NIN. Who is the somebody? Are you not supposed to be the one to secure the account? Don’t you do verification? Don’t you check if the face match? This is why I don’t use GTBank. It is very porous.” The activist said.
He, vowed to bring his mother to the bank himself in demand for reversal of all the money deducted from her account as well as the identification of the culprit who took the loan with the account.
“GTBank abeg tomorrow or whenever holiday finish, I dey carry my Mama dey come. You people should just fix that account and refund the money or you provide the person that used that Nin to collect the loan. You will refund and provide that person.” VDM said.
